Cadillac was formed from the remnants of the Henry Ford Co when Henry Ford departed along with several of his key partners and the company was dissolved. With the intent of liquidating the firm's assets, Ford's financial backers, called in engineer HEnry Leland to appraise the plant and equipment prior to selling them. Instead, Leland persuaded them to continue the automobile business using Leland's proven 1-cylinder engine. Henry Ford's departure required a new name, and the company reformed as the Cadillac Automobile Company.

The Cadillac automobile was named after the 17th century French explorer Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, founder of Detroit in 1701.

Cadillac helped to define advanced engineering, luxury and style early in Automotive History and would come to be known as one of the world’s finest made vehicles. Precision manufacturing of truly interchangeable parts was an award-winning industry first in 1908. Cadillac was the first manufacturer to release cars with a fully enclosed cab as factory equipment in 1910. Standard electric engine starting and lighting was another award winner for 1912. Cadillac introduced the first production V8 engine for the 1914 model year. Cadillac was the first manufacturer to utilize the skills of a designer to produce a car's body instead of an engineer (1927). This gave the public a car that looked as good as it performed. Cadillac's engineers were first to design a manual transmission with synchronizers for increased drivability (1929) and were instrumental in the early development of the automatic transmission, beginning in 1932. Cadillac offered a production V16 engine from 1930 through 1940 and introduced the production independent wishbone front suspension in 1934. The marque introduced tailfins for 1948. From the late 1960s onward, Cadillac offered a fiber-optic indication system which alerted the driver of a failed light bulb.

The Cadillac Series 65 was the one of the company's mid-priced vehicle lines when it appeared in 1937. It shared a similar front end with the Fleetwood produced Series 75. The Series 65 was discontinued after 1938 model year.Note that the model names of the 1930s used the year as well. So a Series 38-65 is a 1938 Series 65.The exterior featured a tall, slender "egg-crate" grille. This differed from the Series 60 and Series 60-S which used the new horizontal bar grille. This body used Fisher Body's "turret top" one-piece roof, all steel body. Under the hood was the Monobloc V8. The displacement on all Cadillac V8s was 346 in This engine produced 135 hp at 3400 R.P.M. The car had Bendix dual-servo brakes, "Knee-action" independent suspension in front and a Stromberg carburetor with an electric choke.

This fine largely original example has covered just under 58,000 miles from new.It has a known history going back over 35 years, and had some engine work a few years back, as well as a repaint. The rest of the car is original. The interior is quite nice with very little wear, all guages and accessories in working order, and exhibit a very nice patina. The paint, while not a show quality job, is very nice with little or no chips, nice gloss and is fine the way it is. The brightwork is in very nice condition with only the most minor of flaws. The Glass is in great shape with only the rear vent windows exhibiting any discoloration or delamination, and then only at the very bottom.

The car runs very very well. I took these shots immediately after the car had been driven roughly 85 miles at speed. It started right back up even though hot, and does not smoke, shudder, or weaze. This is a fine running car you can get in and drive anywhere. The undercarraige and engine bay could use further detailing, but is indicative of the fact that the car is a great driver and gets use. A CCCA Full Classic, the 65 Series is a pretty rare car having been only produced for 3 model years. It is a great alternative to the popular 62 Series, and the massive 75 Series. You wont see yourself coming and going on tours in this car.

This car is also a sure bet for Awards in the Preservation Class with its exceptional original features.
