1959 MGA Roadster This 1959 MGA 1500 was found in a barn in Chanute Kansas, a complete car but total basket-case. The restoration began around 1990 and was 95% complete by 1995. Complete disassembly frame-off restoration included sand-blasting of frame. Body was dipped in acid bath to remove all paint, then sent to a professional body shop for reassembly of the fenders, doors, hood and trunk, then primed and painted with six coats of automotive paint to the original Chariot red. Engine was rebuilt professionally by an experienced British automotive mechanic. Engine was re-bored and fitted with valve seats (I think that is the correct term) designed for unleaded fuel. Compression is fantastic and engine runs probably better than factory. Carburetors rebuilt, brake cylinder rebuilt, transmission rebuilt, all gauges were rebuilt, new brake lines, wiring harness, everything re-chromed. A special feature is a rebuilt original Radiomobile AM radio that came as an accessory in 1959, an interesting detail for the Concours judges! The car was restored to match the factory specification numbers with the exception of the interior; replaced in black instead of red leather. No superfluous nick-naks visible on the car, just original in every detail. There are five brand new tires, four of which are mounted on rebuilt wire wheels. There is no fifth wire wheel spare. The wheels are a little rough, not up to the same level of quality as everything else. The car is also fitted with a tonneau cover. The only things missing are the side curtains and storage bag which I decided not to buy new. In conclusion, everything that was original and re-useable was rebuilt and used in the restoration, and only new parts were used when necessary. The typical engine and transmission leaks are present which I am told is normal. There are a few tiny blemishes in the paint that have happened while the car was in storage. The only other paint issue is a very small spot with a slight clouding on the side near the driver door but could possibly be buffed-out to a higher gloss. There are just under 500 driven miles on the car since the restoration.
