Panoz Auto Development is an American manufacturer of high-performance automobiles founded in 1989 by Dan Panoz, son of pharmaceutical and motorsport mogul Don Panoz. The company is located in Hoschton, GA. Panoz products have included the Panoz Roadster and AIV Roadster, and the Panoz Esperante. All Panoz road cars are tested exhaustively at Panoz-owned Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia and handcrafted at the Hoschton workshop. Since 1997, Panoz cars have competed in racing series around the world. Panoz strives to maintain a close link between its road cars and its racing activities. To this end, Panoz has shifted its American Le Mans and European racing programs toward production-based classes that allow Esperante variants to be raced in modified form. In addition to Le Mans series wins, an Esperante GTLM won the GT2 class at the 2006 24 Hours of Le Mans. For the 2007 American LeMans season, Panoz has contracted longtime BMW Motorsport partner Prototype Technology Group to campaign the GTLM in the ALMS and Le Mans. Panoz also provided the Champ Car World Series with their race car, the Panoz DP01.
In 1992, the Panoz Auto Development Company of Georgia launched a new vehicle, the Panoz Roadster. This sports car/hot rod was built using a stainless steel frame and an aluminum body. These handmade vehicles were the brainchild of Danny Panoz who had purchased the rights to the frame designed by Frank Costin used in a defunct Irish sportscar called the TMC Costin. Panoz had Freeman Thomas design a new body for the car. The car used Ford Mustang running gear — engine and transmission — a solid rear axle and independent front suspension.
The handling is amazing, acceleration wonderful. The curvy body and reverse-flip hood really wows people. It does not look like a V8 would fit under the hood, and indeed its a close fit. The cockpit is tight and occupants sit shoulder-to-shoulder. The car's track is much wider than it appears, and the gorgeous front fenders follow every nuance of the front tires. Adjustable coil over shocks on polished, exposed front suspension are both functional and beautiful. Danny felt driving is to be enjoyed, and he wanted people to have a car that would take them back to the basic enjoyment of driving for fun.
This exceptional example has covered very few miles form new and is in as new condition.
