The Chevrolet El Camino is a coupé utility vehicle that was produced by Chevrolet between 1959–60 and 1964–1987. Unlike a pickup truck, the El Camino was adapted from a two-door station wagon platform that integrated the cab and cargo bed into the body.
Introduced in the 1959 model year in response to the success of the Ford Ranchero coupé utility, its first run lasted only two years. Production resumed for the 1964–1977 model years based on the Chevelle platform, and continued for the 1978–1987 model years based on the GM G-body platform. Five generations of the El Camino were produced, the final, a new, trimmer El Camino was unveiled in 1978, adopting the new, more sharp-edged Malibu styling, and a one-inch longer wheelbase of 117 in. The front end sheet metal and doors were shared with the Malibu, and the rear tailgate and bumper was shared with the Malibu station wagon. For the first time, though, the El Camino had a unique chassis – it was shared with no other Chevrolet. The front end featured a new single rectangular headlight design. Among GM makes, at least, the era of bigness was fading into history, overtaken by a new age of efficiency and economy.
This custom built RestoMod El Camino has had a lot of very trick improvements. Under the hood a High Output ZZ3 V8 was installed after having a lot of Lingenfelter Engineering work performed including porting and polishing the heads-and it was dyno'd producing over 500 HP; Coupled to a 700R4 Automatic with B&M Floor Shifter and Cohen Torque Converter, and Ford 9" Rear End. A Hotchkiss Engineering Front Suspension and Baer Disc Brakes were installed all around. The car has an air suspension system, and a power bed cover, all the the exterior door handles have been shaved and the fuel door has been relocate inside the bed. Even the license plate mount is hydraulic. The car has a custom pearl paint job, with custom stripes, a fully lined and upholstered bed, Choo Choo Customs Front End and Hood. Everything is power operated with Custom Leather Interior, Custom Guages and of course Air Conditioning, Power Windows, Doors, pretty much everything.
There is a litany of high performance parts all around the car which we have in a spread sheet detailed for those interested.
This is a great opporunity to get a great RestoMod El Camino for less than half the cost of the build.
