1931 Stutz DV32 Limosine by LeBaron FIne Original Unrestored Car Known History
This amazingly well preserved example has been under the care of dedicated Stutz Collectors for most of its life. The car was purchased off of a used car lot in Chicago in the late 40's by a Stutz Collector and remained with him until he passed the car onto another Stutz Collector in the mid 60's. The car has remained in that family since, having been passed from father to son in the 80''s. At that point the Son recommissioned the car with a general overall Mechanical Recommission including dropping the oil pan, and inspecting the bearings- which were found to be insert bearings in excellent condition. This was an update performed at Stutz Dealers in period. He also rebuilt the Carburator, Generator, Starter, and most importantly the entire brake system with all lines replaced and Wheel Cylinders rebuilt to accomadate Silicone Brake Fluid. He used the car sparingly from time to time on Sunny Summer days, always keeping the car stored and covered in a climate controlled environment. Over the last decade the car sat unused as he worked on the restoration of other DV32's in his collection. In preparation for sale, the car was again recommissioned but amazingly needed very little to come up and run and drive quite well, probably owing to the excellent environment it was housed in.
This is a very special car. Over the past 20 years the appreciation of unrestored cars has grown, but the concept of what should be preserved is all over the place. Often we see cars with substantial paint loss and corrosion, interiors in tatters, cracked windows you can't even see out of, and rusty plating being presented at Concours-and while this is all well and good; let's face it- these cars really don't represent what they were when new, but rather what happens to cars when stored improperly, or after facing decades of neglect.
Here we have a car that's been well cared for it's entire life- the very elusive "fine original car". All of the finishes- the paint-the interior- the brightwork-the mechanical components-are all in exceptional condition showing just the right amount of honest wear, and are a testament to the high build quality and level of craftsmanship that these cars exhibited when new. This is a very rare opportunity to acquire one of the finest cars produced during the halcyon days of the Classic Era in as close to new condition as one will ever find.
More photos and videos are forthcoming once the weather clears.
