1964 Lincoln Continental Convertible Fresh Restoration to Top Show Standards
For the 1961 model year, the Lincoln range was consolidated into one model. Following the $60 million in losses to develop the 1958–1960 cars, all models were replaced by a new Lincoln Continental. Making its first appearance since 1948, the fourth-generation was available only as a four-door sedan and convertible until its 1966 model year refresh. The 1961 four-door sedan was listed at $6,067, while the convertible was listed at $6,713.
For 1964, the Lincoln Continental underwent its first mid-cycle redesign. Alongside styling updates, several functional changes were focused towards increasing rear-seat space. The wheelbase was increased from 123 to 126 inches, shifting the rear seats backward. The roofline underwent several changes, with the adoption of flat side glass (replacing curved window glass). To increase rear headroom, the rear roofline became additionally squared off, in a notchback style.
In a slight exterior restyling, to eliminate the "electric shaver" appearance, the front fascia added vertical chrome accents to the grille; the recessed rear grille was replaced by a much simpler decklid with trim panel (moving the fuel-filler door to the left-rear fender). The interior was completely revised with a full-width instrument panel, updated upholstery patterns, door panels and fittings.
This stunning example has a known history from new, in fact I sold this car for its second owner, a prominent local Architect about a decade ago. The current owner had the car completely restored to top show standards using the top Lincoln Continental Specialists in the Country. The Full Leather Interior was redone by Jim Wallace, and the Paint and Body work by Mann's Restoration. Everything was rebuilt and restored-the drivetrain, the suspension, the Fuel System, All Peripheral systems Including the AC which blows Ice Cold. No expense was spared, no corners cut, the goal was to make this car the finest of its kind. The car runs and drives perfectly and needs absolutely nothing to be driven cross country or shown at eh most demanding concours events.
The result is simply stunning. If you are looking for the finest Continental Convertible you can find you will be hard pressed to find a better example
