1937 Cord 812 SC Phaeton Honest car in Excellent driving condition ACD Cert.
The 810-812 Cord is a consensus for anyones list of the most beautiful production cars of all time! This groundbreaking design set the world on fire when it was introduced at the 1935 NY Auto Salon. People actually stood on top of other cars to get a glimpse of the Cord, which was akin to a spaceship having landed in the middle of the show floor. Sales requests were overwhelming for the relatively small Auburn Auto company and the cars were rushed to production. Many little irritating things were solved in the '37 Production year so '37 is generally considered the year to buy if you have a choice. The supercharged models with their outside exhaust pipes are the rarest and most desirable models. These cars are arguably the fastest and most drivable PreWar car there is. They handle and ride like no other Pre War car. They look like no other PreWar car. They are quite simply like no other PreWar car and quite frankly better than many cars produced long after the War ended.
This great running example, an ACD Certified car, has an interesting history and has long been part of one of the finest collections in Indiana. The car was purchased in the early 60's as a Christmas Gift for the Collector by his wife. The car had been recommissioned at the ACD Factory then under the control of Dallas Winslow- who had purchased the remaining spares and Headquarters building after the Factory closed and provided service work for ACD cars for many years until selling the remaining inventory to Glen Pray. It has been held in the collection ever since- always kept in good running order and used sparingly over the years. With an honest patina that cannot be duplicated, this car stands as a rare example of the work performed at the factory after WWII. Finished in a striking and quite unique Copper Metallic, with matching Full Leather interior, and Tan Top, this car is one of the most memorable Cords we have seen. The paint is largely in good condition but has just the right amount of honest patina- minor crazing and a few nicks here and there, that is visible only upon close inspection. The interior is still soft and supple with only one small area of cracking on the drivers seat. The top-while obviously older-is in excellent condition and is complete with side curtains. Most importantly- the car runs and drives perfectly and has successfully completed CCCA CARavans in the recent past- this car needs nothing mechanically- you can jump in and drive it without hesitation. The car is correct in every manner and worthy of acquisition by the most discriminating collector. Phaetons are the most drivable and usable when it comes to Open Cords, you can take along a few passengers in style and get there in a hurry! No collection is complete without an 810/812 Cord.
The 812 Cord is one of the most beautiful production cars of all time, and they are quite simply the best driving pre War car there is.
Offered for the first time in nearly 60 years, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a Supercharged Phaeton that is really without peer.
