1948 Singer 9 Convertible in Excellent Running Condition Award Winner!
Here is what the owner has to say about this car:
Where does it fit into our collection of “high end” cars? Fat old men can “fit” in it! “Fit” is an issue for the Jaguars, Triumphs, Healeys and all of the “mid range” sports cars. With the period English brakes and suspension, 40 mph gives the same sensation as 80mph in more sophisticated cars.
I suspect that the 12,990 mi, is the true milage, due to the history on this car. It was “found” abandoned under a pile of packing crates in an orchard shed in Hyannis, Ma in 1996, when the property was being excavated for a development. The owner passed it onto a local body shop/ replica Porsche builder. He rebuilt the body and engine and put it back on the road in 1998. We bought it on Ebay in 2004 with 12,786 miles.
In 2004, prior to putting it on the road here we had European Motors go over the car, make numerous electrical repairs, a Petronix ignition, motor tinkering, new tires, and other items to make it roadworthy. Subsequently we replaced the top and side curtains.
In 2006 it won “1st in Class” at Concours de Elegance.
In 2009 it was back at European Motors, with a blown head gasket. During head gasket repairs, numerous other top engine repairs and adjustments were made. An electric Audi water pump was added to supplement the original “convection cooling system”.
It was then put aside for a few years while the press of business took over.
In2020 the hydro/mechanical brake system was totally rebuilt. It was no longer necessary to “plan your stops”.
In 2022 a temperature gauge was added and inconspicuously placed in the glove compartment.
This is the last vehicle in an extensive collection of classic cars to be offered (28 vehicles). The last, because it has been a joy to drive.
